Questions people ask

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file and draws it on the page. It is not sent to a server, so it is fine for private documents.

Can I edit on my phone?

Yes. Open a file or start a blank document and press Edit. On a phone the editor downloads only when you press Edit (about 9 MB), and the toolbar is easier to use with the phone turned sideways. Reading, copying text and saving a PDF work too.

Why does the editor take a moment the first time?

It is a full word processor that your browser downloads once, around 10 MB with compression. After that it starts from the browser's cache.

The editor doesn't start. What should I try?

Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. If it still fails, the page offers a compatibility mode.

Does it open older .doc files?

No. Only the modern .docx format. Save an older file as .docx first.

Will my document look exactly like it does in Word?

Usually close, but not always. Unusual fonts and advanced formatting may look different.
